SURPRISE, Ariz. -- A man was killed and five other people were injured when two vehicles collided in Surprise Sunday afternoon.

According to Surprise police spokesman Sgt. Mark Ortega, a minivan carrying five people and a full-sized pickup truck with one occupant collided at Reems Road and Paradise Lane at approximately 4:30 p.m.

The van reportedly flipped on its side and was fully engulfed in fire.

A 46-year-old man riding in the minivan was killed. His name has not been released and is pending notification of next of kin.

Two adults, a 12-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy who were in the van were transported to area hospitals for treatment.

The driver of the truck was also taken to a hospital for treatment.

One of the victims, a 71-year-old man, reportedly had burns to 30 percent of his body, face and forearms.
