3 Boys arrested for vandalism at North Valley charter schoolPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Authorities say three boys are behind the vandalism at a Valley charter school. Those vandals hit not once, but twice.
The Phoenix Fire Department said crews were called to Milestones Preschool and Charter School at Tatum Boulevard and Union Hills Drive in North Phoenix just before 3 a.m. Friday.
Investigators said vandals broke several windows with rocks, destroyed the school vegetable garden, broke more than 24 light fixtures, and lit some trash on fire. The fire set off the sprinklers, which flooded several of the rooms and caused thousands of dollars in damage to music equipment.
The total damage was estimated to be more than $100,000.
This is not the first time vandals have struck.
"Last night, someone tried to burn a picnic table and busted out about 25 lights in the courtyard," said Capt. Victor Rangel of the Phoenix Fire Department. "They did the same thing tonight. It's unfortunate that someone thinks this is funny and causing this kind of damage."
"We all work hard here to create a safe, good environment for our school," said Tricia Larue, the school's assistant principal. "For somebody to do this to us, it's ridiculous."
Three boys have been arrested. They reportedly admitted their involvement in the crime.
