PHOENIX -- An extremely hot weekend lies ahead for central Arizona. The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued an excessive heat watch from Saturday through Monday.

The watch covers all of Maricopa County and northwest Pinal County including the greater Phoenix metropolitan area.

Forecasters say afternoon high temperatures will range from 110 up to 115 degrees Saturday and Sunday with Sunday expected to be hotter than Saturday. Overnight lows will also be very warm ranging from the mid 80s to the low 90s.

Weather experts strongly suggest completing any necessary outdoor activity in the early morning when the sun and heat are less intense.
