Nogales man drowns in Patagonia LakePosted: Updated:
NOGALES, Ariz. (AP) -- A Santa Cruz County sheriff's search and rescue team has recovered the body of a man who disappeared while swimming in Patagonia Lake.
Sheriff Tony Estrada says the body of 28-year-old Sergio Rene Chavez was recovered on Monday, a day after his family reported him missing after a family outing at the lake.
Estrada says Chavez strayed from his group on Sunday afternoon, and they went home without him, thinking he had gotten another ride. They later called authorities, who discovered his shirt and wallet tucked in a nook of a log and began a search.
Estrada says Chavez had been drinking and apparently decided to go swimming. He body was pulled from a shallow part of the lake.
