Court paperwork reveals more details about cop-killing suspects

PHOENIX - Court paperwork reveals more details about the six suspects in police custody facing multiple counts of murder after a cop was shot dead and two more injured in an undercover operation that went bad.

Two of the eight suspects were killed, one of them as he was driving away. One of the deceased was identified as Markiese Royalty, 26. The other suspect killed was Roger Tatum, 32.

The other suspects have been identified as Thandika Singleton, 38, Jerry Cockhearn, 25, John Webber, 37, Eldridge Gittens, 34, and Doarnell Jackson, 35.

They have been charged with three counts of first-degree murder, four counts of aggravated assault and other charges including burglary and possession of marijuana for sale.

The suspects are on a $3 million cash bond. They will be in court on for a status hearing on Aug. 5.


Services for Detective Carlos Lesdema have been planned. A public viewing has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 3. The public is invited to come honor and pay their respects to Detective Ledesma starting at 6 PM.  The viewing will be held at the Chandler Center for the Arts, located at 250 N. Arizona Ave. 

Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, August 4th, starting at 10 AM at the Mission Community Church, located at 4450 E. Elliot Road in the town of Gilbert.  Following the memorial services, Detective Ledesma will be laid to rest in the Valley of the Sun Cemetery, located at 10940 E. Chandler Heights Road in Chandler.
