Baby left inside car in Gilbert after shopping tripPosted: Updated:
GILBERT, Ariz. -- A Gilbert mother reportedly left her 6-month-old baby inside a car for approximately 45 minutes late Friday morning.
According to the Gilbert Police Department, the mother apparently went shopping, carried some items into the house and forgot that the baby girl was in the back seat of the car.
The mom reportedly had other kids with her at the time.
When she remembered the baby, she called 911 and was told her to put the child in water to cool her body until paramedics arrived.
Paramedics reported that the child was having a seizure.
The child was transported by ambulance to Banner Desert Medical Center. Lt. Joe Ruet with the Gilbert Police Department said the baby was crying and coherent before leaving for the hospital.
There is no word on her current condition.
Ruet said a front window in the car was down about 6 inches, which let some of the heat in the car escape and possibly helped avoid a tragedy.
Ruet said the incident is still under investigation.
