TEMPE, Ariz. – Police in Tempe need the public’s help in locating suspects in a series of armed robberies in the northwest side of the city.

There have reportedly been nine incidents since April 11. Over half of the robberies took place on weekends between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m.

Police say they believe those responsible are probably a group of up to four suspects. They reportedly approach victims as they are walking in a parking lot or street and make contact by asking random questions such as, 'Are you an ASU student' or 'Can I borrow your phone?'

The suspects threaten the victims with a handgun once they have their attention and steal their valuables.

The Tempe Police ACTION Team, bike squad and robbery detectives say they have been aggressively following all leads.

Tempe officers remind residents and visitors to always be mindful of their personal safety and surroundings. You are also advised to avoid distractions such as listening to music players while alone.

Anyone with information on the series of robberies or suspects is asked to call Tempe police at (480) 350-8311 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
