Defending 5A state champs open football practice

Posted: Updated:

CHANDLER, Ariz. - The defending 5A-I state high school football champs open practice as they attempt to win their sixth title over the past eight years.

Hamilton beat Mesa 35-0 to win their second straight state title last year. It also capped an undefeated season for the Huskies, the first in their 11 year history. This season the Huskies will have a new starting quareterback, but the experience of a talented offensive line should give Kyren Poe the chance to feel comfortable dropping back for a pass or taking off for a running play.

The Huskies will be talented, but we'll have to wait until December to see if that translated into a thrid straight state title.

Hamilton opens the football season with an August 21 game against Biship Gorman from Nevada at the NAU Skydome.
