Arizona laws go into effect ThursdayPosted: Updated:
July 29, Thursday, is when SB 1070 goes into effect. And, it continues to be extremely controversial.
Police and sheriff's deputies this month attended training workshops focused on enforcing the law. Most opponents of the law say it's racist and promotes racial profiling. Many proponents of the law feel it'll help lessen the number of illegal immigrants living in Arizona. Governor Jan Brewer, who signed SB 1070 into law in April, stands behind the legislation.
Another law going into effect on Thursday is Arizona's gun law. Once it does, Arizonans will be able to carry a concealed weapon without a permit.
In fact, you'll be able to carry that weapon without completing a safety course. There are a few exceptions. You can't carry your weapon into a bar or restaurant that serves alcohol. You also can't carry it into a business that prohibits weapons.
