PHOENIX -- Phoenix Police arrested 43-year-old Ignacio Ruelasa on Saturday. Ruelasa is being held on a number of charges, including aggravated assault, kidnapping, and unlawful flight.
According to police reports, Ruelasa believed that "some kids" broke into his car and stole his stereo earlier in the day. Ruelasa began searching his South Phoenix neighborhood for the thieves. He allegedly approached a group of teens walking near 15th Avenue and W. Alta Vista Road and pointed a gun at a 15-year-old male. The teen managed to escape the situation unharmed.
A short while later, Ruelasa reportedly approached another group of teens and forced a 13-year-old into his car at gunpoint.
Officers responding to the scene attempted to stop Ruelas's vehicle when he lost control of the car.
Police placed Ruelas under arrest and released the 13-year old victim from the suspect's vehicle. The young victim was, "scared but very fortunately unharmed” according to Phoenix Police Sergeant Trent Crump.
Police said they do not believe either of the teens had anything to do with the break-in.
