Female Arizona inmate dies from apparent suicidePosted: Updated:
GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) -- Authorities say an inmate at the state prison west of Phoenix is dead after apparently committing suicide.
Arizona Department of Corrections officials say 28-year-old Geshell Fernandez was found in her cell early Friday at the Perryville prison in Goodyear.
They say medical personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but she was pronounced dead shortly before 1 a.m.
DOC officials did not release details on the method of the apparent suicide. They say the death is under investigation.
Fernandez entered the Arizona prison system in November 2009 after a conviction from Maricopa County for aggravated assault and a drug paraphernalia violation. She was serving a 7 1/2-year sentence in the Lumley Unit of the Perryville prison.
