PHOENIX -- A Salt River Project employee discovered a body in a Phoenix canal Tuesday morning.
Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Trent Crump said they received a call from SRP reporting that an employee found a body in the canal near 42nd Street and Baseline Road at approximately 9 a.m.
Crump initially said that it appeared the victim slipped or slid into the canal, but the cause of death has not been determined. During an examination, investigators discovered suspicious trauma and believe foul play may be involved.
Some items that might belong to the victim were found on the canal bank.
The victim's identity is not known at this time, but Crump said the victim was an adult white male in his 50s, 6 feet tall, 250 pounds with long gray hair. They believe he is a transient that lives in the area.
Police are still investigating and ask if you have any information contact the Phoenix Police Department or Silent Witness.
