TFD warns about medication disposalPosted: Updated:
A warning from the Tucson Fire Department about how you throw away unused or expired prescription drugs.
Fire officials say a growning number of people have gone to local fire stations to drop off their unused prescription drugs. Instead, they recommend people dispose of the medications themselves, but use caution.
"Either dissolve them in water or crush them up, then you can put them in coffee grounds, sawdust, or even kitty litter, and then put them in the garbage can like that."
They also warn people not to flush or pour presciption drugs down the toilet or drain because traces of the medications can wind up in the city's groundwater.
