Jeffrey Kirkman, Nogales Chief of Police. Named to the post in late January, Scott says he was interested in Nogales because it seemed to be a relatively safe City and one with a well-run police department. During Wednesday's interview, Scott says he will implement a “community policing” program, whereby police and the citizens meet in regularly scheduled forums to address issues or concerns and to generate new ideas. On Thursday's program, Scott says  Nogales continually ranks among the safest cities in the U.S.  He says the current budget challenge means it will be tougher to hire additional police but he says the force is currently adequately staffed for a City the size of Nogales.  Friday, Scott says in addition to regular community forums, he also wants to set up a citizens advisory committee to the department.  He says his focus is on maintaining good relations between the community and the police department.
