Wildcats to retire 7 football jerseys on Nov. 13Posted: Updated:
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- Arizona will retire the jerseys of seven former players this fall, including those of College Football Hall of Fame members Ricky Hunley and Chuck Cecil.
The university announced Thursday that the Nov. 13 ceremony will be at halftime of the game against Southern California. While the jerseys are retired, the individual numbers will not be taken out of use by the Wildcats' program.
Hunley, a star linebacker at Arizona from 1980-83, was a 1998 College Football Hall of Fame inductee while Cecil, a safety from 1984-87, was enshrined last year.
Also being honored are five other national award winners - defensive tackle Rob Waldrop (1993 Outland Trophy winner), kicker Steve McLaughlin (1994 Groza Award), cornerback Chris McAlister (1998 Tatupu Award), cornerback Antoine Cason (2007 Thorpe Award) and cornerback Darryll Lewis (1990 Thorpe Award).
The seven jerseys and the previously retired one of 1950s running back Art Luppino will be displayed in a new location at Arizona Stadium.
