Chandler toddler dies after being found in family's hot car in driveway

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Chandler police are investigating the death of a child found in a hot car.

The 3-year-old child was found on the front seat of the family car parked in the driveway of their home.

April Carpenter, 24, was inside her home near Dobson Road and Chandler Boulevard when she realized her son was missing.

Carpenter searched her home and checked with neighbors, before calling police to report her son was missing.

When officers arrived they searched the vehicles and located the child unresponsive on the front seat of the car.

An officer began CPR and Chandler Fire transported the boy to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives are not sure how the boy got into the car or how long he might have been in there.
