Woman with no running water found dead inside her Glendale home

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Police said they found the body of 66-year-old woman who had not been seen for couple of days inside a Glendale home early Tuesday morning.

According to Officer Karen Gerardo, neighbors called the police to request a welfare check shortly before 6:30 a.m. They told officers they had not seen Amelia Salinas since Sunday afternoon.

When officers went to the home near 49th Avenue and Bethany Home Road, they discovered the Salinas' body.

While investigators cannot say for certain how Salinas died until the medical examiner has seen the body, Gerardo said the death does not appear to be suspicious at this time.

The neighbors who called police had been bringing Salinas food and water, Gerardo said.

"She does have electricity in the home, but no running water," Gerardo said. Officers are not sure why Salinas did not have running water in her house.

Gerardo said that while the home does have electricity, the air conditioner was not on when officers went inside.

While the cause of death has not been officially determined, police are warning people about the potential dangers of extreme heat, especially to the elderly.

"Just a reminder to folks, if you have elderly family in the Valley and you're able to check on them often, it would be good to do so," Gerardo said.
