Domestic dispute in Peoria turns fatal; victim's son faces murder charge
Florencio Ibarra By Jennifer Thomas
PEORIA, Ariz. -- Police have arrested a 24-year-old man in the shooting death of his father after a domestic dispute ended in gunfire.
Officers were called out to a home in the neighborhood of 91st and Peoria avenues at about 10:30 Monday night. According to a neighbor, it's not the first time police have been to that home.
Investigators said the situation started with a verbal argument between a man and a woman. At some point, the couple's 24-year-old son, who reportedly also lives at the home, got involved. Police said the son pulled a gun and opened fire on his father.
The wounded man, identified as Florencio Ibarra Sr., 44, was air-lifted to John C. Lincoln Hospital where he later died.
A neighbor said there is a long history of abuse in the home. That neighbor, who said she is a friend of the family, wanted to remain anonymous, but told 3TV she heard the man threaten his wife and their adult children on more than one occasion. She said she has even called the police once before.
Detectives are going through the house and talking to other members of the family as they attempt to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.
Police have decided to charge the son, Florencio Ibarra Jr., with second-degree murder.
