Immigration lawsuit costsPosted: Updated:
One of the men who wrote SB 1070 doesn't believe the federal lawsuit will hold up.
The government's lawsuit doesn't concern racial profiling, it concerns states rights versus the federal government rights.
And the bill's co-author says they took that into consideration when writing it. Regardless the lawsuit will end up costing taxpayer money, but estimates of how much vary.
"I don't think the defense of this law will go above 1 or $200,000," says District 8 Rep. John Kavanagh (R).
A constutional law professor says the federal government will try to prove SB 1070 conflicts with federal law, and if so, it should be struck down as unconstitutional.
