Federal lawsuit against Arizona -- What happens now?

Posted: Updated:

PHOENIX -- Now that the Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against Arizona over Senate Bill 1070, what happens next?

The federal government is claiming the new anti-illegal-immigration law, which requires local and state law enforcement to question people about their immigration status if there's reason to suspect they might in the country illegally, usurps federal authority. The DOJ calls SB 1070 unconstitutional.

The law is slated to take effect at the end of the month. If the case is not resolved, the government wants an injunction to delay it.

Attorney Dan Barr chats with Tara Hitchcock about what happens now.
