MESA, Ariz. -- A former student teacher was arrested early Tuesday morning for reportedly having sexual relations with a student.

The investigation began when the parents of the 16-year-old female victim contacted the Mesa Police Department and reported that their daughter had been arriving home late from work and did not have a good explanation why.

According to Mesa police Detective Steve Berry, the parents had also been suspicious over the past few months when their daughter had been talking about hanging out with friends and seeing someone named Ray. Monday evening they learned that person was Ray G. Hutson, 36.

Berry said the victim met Hutson when he was student teaching at Mesa Mountain View High School this past school year. The victim reported that the relationship turned sexual over the past month.

Through the investigation, Hutson was contacted and reportedly made admissions to his involvement with the victim.

Hutson was arrested at his Mesa apartment at approximately 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. He has been booked on five counts of sexual conduct with a minor.
