10-Month-old found in Mesa pool on Fourth of July diesPosted: Updated:
MESA, Ariz. – The Fourth of July holiday turned tragic for a Mesa family when a 10-month-old baby was found floating in a backyard swimming pool Sunday morning. Mesa police confirmed Tuesday that the child died.
Paramedics were called out to the home near Southern Avenue and Gilbert Road at about 10 a.m. Sunday.
According to the Mesa Fire Department, the little boy got out of the house, which reportedly belongs to a relative, through a sliding glass door.
Emergency crews who responded to the scene said the pool does not have a fence around it.
There were a total of three children at the home at the time. It was an older child who found the 10-month-old floating face down in the pool. It’s not clear how long the baby had been in the water.
The little boy was in critical condition when he was rushed to Banner Desert Medical Center. He was taken off life support and died Monday night.
Police said this appears to be simply a tragic accident. At this point, no charges have been filed.
This is the sixth drowning or near-drowning incident involving a child younger than 6 years old in Mesa this year.
