Interim D-backs GM Jerry Dipoto: "I've been entrusted to steer the ship"

PHOENIX -- Jerry Dipoto, the Diamondbacks interim general manager, went one on one with 3TV's Tim Ring to talk about the future of the foundering team.

"I trust the people in this organization. I trust the direction of this organization," Dipoto told Ring. "I feel like now I've been entrusted to steer the ship -- in terms of baseball operation -- for the time being. I hope in time I prove capable of doing that over the long haul."

Dipoto was named interim GM after the Diamondbacks fired Josh Byrnes and manager A.J. Hinch on Thursday.

Kirk Gibson has taken over managing the team for the moment, and made his debut with a win over the Los Angeles Dodgers, a team for which he used to play.
