TEMPE – A Metro bus went up in flames in Tempe while traveling eastbound on Southern just east of the Loop 101.
The driver was reportedly having trouble with the air conditioning unit and pulled over near Loop 101 and Southern on Friday at about 4 p.m. Police tell 3TV the air conditioning system on the bus kept going out.
3TV is told that while that driver was waiting for a new bus when the air conditioning unit on the back of the bus caught on fire.
A 3TV viewer snapped photos of the flames and sent it in to the newsroom.
There were about 20 to 25 people on board at the time but everyone got out safely.
