New pawn shop fees in effect in Tucson; Arizona appliance rebate program

Posted: Updated:

New pawn shop fees went into effect Thursday in Tucson.

They're aimed to help police recoup resources spent on investigating at pawn shops. The changes include a one dollar fee on each pawn shop transaction. And pawnbrokers must pay a one thousand dollar occupational license tax each year.

Pawnbrokers and second hand dealers have said they'll have no choice but to pass the added expenses onto customers.

For the second time this year, you can get cash for buying a new appliance.

Starting Thursday, the Arizona Appliance Rebate Program is offering rebates of 100, 200, and 300 dollars on refrigerators, freezers, solar hot water heaters and room air conditioners.

The rebates will continue until funds are depleted.
