PHOENIX -- Organizers of a grassroots campaign to ban speed cameras in Arizona state highways and local streets plan to file initiative petitions on Thursday's deadline to qualify the measure for the November ballot.

The campaign is going forward despite Gov. Jan Brewer's decision to not renew a contract for the state's 2-year-old camera program.

A number of local governments also have cameras triggered by radar or other sensors.

The only initiative to qualify so far is one on medical marijuana. An initiative campaign on property tax relief fell short.

A number of referendum measures are on the ballot due to legislative action.
