CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Chandler police say they have arrested a man suspected of stealing cosmetics from Walgreens stores across the Valley.

Chandler police detectives arrested Anthony R. Hamilton, 34, at his Phoenix home Tuesday morning.

Hamilton is suspected of being the "Blue Basket Bandit" and has been booked into the Maricopa County Jail. He is facing charges of organized retail theft and shoplifting.

Chandler police Detective David Ramer said Hamilton is suspected of committing up to 20 different thefts from various Walgreens stores throughout the Valley.

During the robberies, police said the suspect would enter a Walgreens store, pick up a blue shopping basket and proceed to the cosmetics section where he would sweep various items into the basket with his arm.

The suspect would then remove a Walgreens plastic bag from his pocket, put the cosmetics inside and walk out without paying.

Police said the thefts ranged from $300 to $700 in merchandise each time.

Ramer said a tip led to Hamilton's arrest.
