Mesa mother arrested after baby left sitting in heatPosted: Updated:
MESA, Ariz. – Police arrested a Mesa woman for allegedly leaving her 11-month-old daughter outside her home strapped into a car seat in triple-digit heat.
Victoria Mitchell was arrested on charges of child abuse on Sunday night after her baby was spotted by a group of people passing by.
Firefighters said the baby was found wearing nothing but a dirty diaper and her temperature was 101 degrees.
Mitchell reportedly told police she had the baby with her when she got home but the front door was locked so she sat the car seat down and entered through the garage. Once inside the house, she said she started feeling sick, which is why she didn't immediately retrieve her baby.
Investigators say they believe the baby was outside for about 30 minutes. The baby is expected to fully recover.
