SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - A Scottsdale man has been arrested after causing a haz-mat scare that prompted the evacuation of eight apartments near 64th Street and Osborn Road.

Police were serving a search warrant Tuesday afternoon at the home of 28-year-old Christopher Milmine, when they found a suspicious white powder inside a Ziploc-style bag on the balcony and called the fire department.

According to Officer David Pubins with the Scottsdale Police Department, Milmine is known to be a prohibited possessor of weapons.

It was determined that the powder might be hazardous and firefighters evacuated the tenants from eight apartment units.

The substance was preliminarily tested at the scene and appeared to be negative for a hazardous substance. It was taken to a laboratory for further testing.

No injuries or symptoms were reported. Osborn Road was closed from 67th Street to 68th Street for emergency vehicles for at least two hours.

Milmine was taken into custody on weapons misconduct charges as he was found to be wearing a large, fixed-blade knife.
