Body found in burning Glendale home; police investigate deathPosted: Updated:
GLENDALE, Ariz. - A person was found dead inside a home that caught on fire in the early morning hours of Saturday.
One neighbor tells 3TV, " We saw like these flames coming out and they were really tall." Another adds, "Within five minutes, the house was really going up."
Firefighters in Glendale tell 3TV the blaze started at about 4:30 a.m. near 87th Lane and Bethany Home.
Sgt. Brent Combs, with Glendale fire, explains, "When firefighters got inside and they were knocking the fire down they encountered a body inside the house."
According to fire officials, the fire started in the garage and then spread to the attic. The roof is reportedly 90 percent destroyed.
Police have identified the victim as Michael Murray, 21.
Sgt. Combs says, "There was a second person that was injured as a result of the fire and that person is also at a Valley trauma center."
That man, identified as Victor Flores, 21, was taken to a local hospital with burns on 20 to 30 percent of his body.
Friends of the victim tell 3TV's Carina Sonn that they were at the home yesterday and two individuals reportedly got into an argument over two cigarettes and the argument escalated. Police have not confirmed this report.
Glendale police and fire personnel continue to try and find out what caused the deadly fire.
Sgt. Combs says, "They're just going very slowly, from beginning to end to see if they can determine what caused the fire and what caused the death of the person inside."
Police are calling this case a death investigation and not a homicide investigation at this point.
