SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Police say a man died while hiking in north Scottsdale Friday morning.

Emergency responders were called to Pinnacle Peak Trail shortly before 7 a.m. about a hiker who was down on the western part of the trail.

Scottsdale police Sgt. Mark Clark said the man appeared to have suffered a medical emergency while hiking the trail.

Clark said a bystander performed CPR on the victim until paramedics arrived and took over. However, the man did not survive.

The victim has been identified as Peter Anderson, 58, of Scottsdale.

The western part of the trail was closed for about three hours during the police investigation.
