PHOENIX - Five children and an adult suffered major injuries when their car flew off a Phoenix freeway.

It happened just before 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon southeast of 24th Street and McDowell Road.

Firefighters say the car went off Loop 202 and slammed into a concrete culvert along a canal bank.

"All of these people have been transported in serious condition,” Jonathan Jacobs with Phoenix fire said. “They were all doing well on scene but they're all transported to local trauma centers so that they can be evaluated due to the mechanism of this accident."

All of the children range in age from 10 to 16.

Firefighters believe one of the kids was not buckled up.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
