Cool deals and summer stealsPosted: Updated:
Summer sometimes means that you are in need of new sandals, shorts and sweat-proof makeup, so I went for looking for cool deals and summer steals to save you money. Take a look at what I found to help keep your beauty and life on a budget!
Stylish Summer Shoes for Less
Possibly the best shoe deals in town can be found at Wholesale Fashion Shoes located on the SW corner of 44th Street and Thomas. Every pair in there sells for only $9.88! Sandals, flats, pumps, dress shoes and even purses. Everything is under ten bucks except for the purses which all sell for under $16! For more information visit their website at WholeSaleFashionShoes.net.
In addition to great shoe styles for the entire family, attractive accessories like pretty purses or beautiful bling can be found at Payless Shoe Source. Be sure to register with the retailer at payless.com. I did last year and I regularly receive 20% off coupons both in my email and in my regular mail.
Go For Groupon.com
After hearing several of my gal pals' excitement over the new savings website called groupon.com, I gave it a try. This national site has no membership fees and allows consumers to purchase deeply discounted gift cards to area attractions like restaurants, spas, gym memberships and more. Once registered in the site, you receive a daily email with the day's savings offer.
For example, the day I joined I received an offer to purchase a $30 gift card to Robbie Fox Public House restaurant in Tempe for only $15. So, the page showed me that I would receive a 50% savings if I opted to purchase the gift card. Most of the offers expire at the end of the year, so that gives me about six months to order $30 worth of food and drink at the Tempe eatery for only $15. My friends tell me that they love this website. I noticed that Groupon is also good about pointing out the fine print, so make sure you check the rules before you buy. With anything online, always read the fine print. And the site is easy to remember, just note that groupon rhymes with coupon! Pretty cool!
Online Olay Deal
One of my favorite newer lines is the Olay Professional Pro X brand. If you want to give it a try, visit buyolayprox.com or call 1-800-948-0879. The deal is that you pay either one payment of $59.97 or three payments of $19.99 and you receive over $100 worth of products. First you get the Intensive Wrinkle Protocol which are three products that include the Age Repair Lotion with SPF 30, Deep Wrinkle Treatment and the Wrinkle Smoothing Cream. In addition you also get the Eye Restoration Complex and 5 Intensive Treatment Masks. You also receive a $10 coupon good for your next Olay Pro X purchase. This deal is not offered in stores and can only be accessed through the website or phone number. I use the Age Repair Lotion daily as it has become one of my favorite finds. Olay tells me that the deal will go on until supplies run out.
Trendy Tresses for Less
Several of my girlfriends told me about a shop for teens and juniors that Moms are checking out as well. Called A'gaci and located in the Chandler Fashion Center Mall, the store does carry young trends, but a salesperson who answered the phone told me there are sections that women in their 40s frequent. So, since I am in that group and noticed that most dresses sell for on average $25 on the store's website, I decided to check it out.
Walking in, I had my doubts as this store was definitely filled with styles for the younger set, but once a nice salesperson named Aubrey helped me, I was on my way to a dressing room with a sea of dresses to try on. To my surprise, several worked and fit just right. I paid $26.50 for a fun and summery sundress that has an attractive embroided trim design and a very reasonable $20 for a nice pair of high wedge sandals. I topped off the outfit with a set of $5 earrings that matched the dress perfectly and some studded shades that only set me back $5.50. So, for a grand total of right under $60, I was able to walk out with a stylish summer dress, wedge heels, earrings and shades, which is an entire outfit.
For bling rings, jewelry, jeans, belts and more at wholesale prices, try Dazzle. With three Valley locations, there may be one close to you. The Mesa store is located at 1728 S. Greenfield Road and the Scottsdale location is at Thunderbird and Scottsdale Rd. Dazzle in Ahwatukee is housed at 48th Street and Ray Road. I found at pair of Miss Chic jeans for $35 that I had seen in other stores for $100. Dazzle also offers an extensive selection of bling bracelets, earrings, necklaces and more for reasonable prices.
Drug Store Steals
When shopping at Walgreen's for your favorite product, check to see if they carry a similar product by the Walgreen's generic line. From shampoo to lotion, Walgreen's brand, simply called W, is quite similar and always less. For example, I found a 16-ounce jar of Eucerin for $13.99 while the almost identical Walgreen's brand in the same size sells for half of that price at $6.99 a jar.
In addition to their great generics, Walgreen's was also an unlikely place for stylish summer dresses, but I found one that I really like for only $14.99. A Walgreen's salesperson saw me looking at the dress and came over to tell me that she was pleasantly surprised by the cute summer clothing they were stocking. I certainly didn't expect to find trendy tops, skirts and dresses there!
Another popular drug store, CVS offers in-store coupons that can be printed out from their website. I found a $3 off coupon for L'Oreal Elnett hair spray, which regularly sells for $14.99, so a three dollars savings is significant. Visit their page at cvs.com to find several pages of coupons for beauty products, groceries and more.
I have also noticed that drugstore.com has a huge selection of products when I am shopping for beauty items online. Free shipping is also offered if you order $25 or more or if you order an item that qualifies for the entire shipment to go out to you at no cost. And the free shipping items are plentiful, so take a look down that online aisle to see if there is something you need that will save you on shipping fees.
Personal Training for Ten Bucks
Most one on one or small group fitness training average about $30 for 30 minutes to one hour, but I found a trainer who is offering her sessions for only $10 a visit. Stacie with LEAN Wellness Fitness Center in Mesa will work you out from head to toe with a combination of circuit training, weights and more. Ten bucks gets you 30 minutes so I gave her a try and I was sore, but satisfied! Good for my health and for my heart. Plus after several weeks with her, I am down one size, so I can save money and fit into some of my older clothing. To reach Stacie call 480-710-7986.
This same fitness center also offers a program that they call LEAN 29 which starts at $29 a week for two 29-minute sessions a week with a personal coach. Also included is a personal consultation with a certified nutrition expert. I have not tried that one, but I have been there when a group of four women were in the middle of the workout and they were definitely getting fit! For more information about Lean 29 and LEAN Wellness Center call 480-648-0655.
Hopefully there was a nugget or two in this column that will keep your beauty and life on a budget. If you know about a great deal, let me know because information sharing means shared savings. And in these tough times, we can all use that!
