SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Scottsdale and Mesa police are investigating a dead male, which they believe started as a dispute between father and son at a home in Scottsdale.

Just after 5 p.m. police got a 911 call of a shooting near Granite Reef and Chaparral roads.

David Pain Sr., 69, reported that he shot his David Pain Jr., 39, in the leg inside the home after his son forced entry into his home.

The son fled the home in a car with friends after the altercation.

About an hour later, Mesa police notified Scottsdale that David Jr. was found in a hotel parking lot on West Main Street.

The son was pronounced dead at the scene in Mesa and it is assumed he died from the earlier gunshot wound from the Scottsdale shooting scene.

David Sr. was not injured and is cooperating with police in the investigation.

Scottsdale police believe David Sr. acted in self defense.

Once the investigation is complete it will be up to the County Attorney if charges should be filed.
