Murder suspect found by police on top of elderly victim in CottonwoodPosted: Updated:
PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - A man has been arrested in connection with a deadly assault inside a Cottonwood home.
The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office says 57-year-old Gary Schlee was being held Tuesday on a $1 million bond at the Camp Verde Detention Center. He's been charged with one count of first-degree murder.
Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of an assault Monday night at the Verde Villages area of Cottonwood.
They say they found Schlee in an upstairs bathtub with blood on him and he was sitting on the body of 74-year-old Leon Haller.
Deputies say Haller appeared to have been assaulted with a blunt object and he was declared dead at the scene.
Authorities say both men lived at the home, but it's unclear if they're related. There's no immediate word on a possible motive for the slaying.
