GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Glendale police have arrested a man for murder after his friend's body was found in the trunk of a car last week.

On Wednesday, police officers discovered the body of Karl McIntosh, 40, in the trunk of his newly purchased Mitsubishi sedan, which was parked in front of a vacant home near 89th and Glendale avenues.

Neighbors said the car had been parked there for several days.

An autopsy conducted revealed McIntosh died as a result of gunshot wounds.

Homicide investigators developed leads following the discovery and late Friday evening detained Locy Mendoza-Smith, 33.

Police said Mendoza-Smith is a longtime friend and business associate of McIntosh.

Investigators served a search warrant on his home near Interstate 10 and Avondale Boulevard in Avondale and found what they believe to be the murder scene.

Mendoza-Smith was booked for first-degree murder early Saturday morning.
