Brush fire near University of Phoenix stadium had Glendale fire crews busyPosted: Updated:
GLENDALE, Ariz. - A brush fire broke out early Saturday morning near the University of Phoenix stadium and Westgate spreading quickly due to windy conditions.
The first alarm fire broke out in the brush at the intersection of 99th Avenue and Glendale Avenue.
The blaze was likely sparked by a tractor working in the wheat filed.
About 30 firefighters battled the blaze, some from neighboring cities and working extremely fast to get the blaze under control.
At one point the smoke was so thick visibility on the Loop 101 was at zero. Many roads in the area were closed while crews extinguished the blaze.
