Fatal crash on SR 89 near Wickenburg closes freeway, 2 injuredPosted: Updated:
WICKENBURG, Ariz. – A deadly crash on State Route 89 closed the freeway in both directions just north of Wickenburg for a few hours on Friday afternoon.
Officer Robert Bailey, the Public Information Officer for the Arizona Department of Public Safety, said they had to close both directions of the freeway due to a three-vehicle fatal collision that took place at milepost 193 just before noon.
For an unknown reason the driver of a Toyota Camry veered into oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with a smart car traveling northbound. DPS says a third vehicle was also going northbound behind the smart car and was unable to stop and struck the Camry.
Zane Horton, 32, of Glendale, died at the scene. Jacqueline Horton, 34, was taken to a local hospital and is expected to be okay. Also taken to the hospital was the driver of the Toyota Camry, 80-year-old Arthur Bridgeforth, of Wickenburg. He suffered serious injuries.
Five people were traveling in the third vehicle, a Ford F150 pick-up truck. two of them suffered minor injuries.
A lot of travelers headed to Kingman, Las Vegas and Laughlin use this roadway to get to their destination.
