DM airmen killedPosted: Updated:
Two Davis-Monthan airmen have been killed in the line of duty. Insurgents shot down their chopper in south-eastern Afghanistan.
They are 32-year-old technical sergeant Michael Flores and 24-year-old Senior Airman Benjamin White. Both are from Texas. Their deaths are the first loss Davis-Monthan has suffered in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Their sacrifice will be solemnly remembered by all of us and their example will forever underscore the rescue creed that others may live. Obviously this is an extraordinary sad time for every member of the DM team. Right now we are focusing specifically on supporting the families who have been left behind.
A Taliban spokesman claims militants took down the NATO helicopter with two rocket-propelled grenades. Flores and white were responsible for evacuating injured allied troops who were taking part in operation enduring freedom.
