4 Flagstaff schools set to close this fallPosted: Updated:
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) -- Four schools within the Flagstaff Unified School District will close this fall because of anticipated cuts in state funding.
The school board voted Tuesday night to close two elementary schools, a middle school and Sinagua High School.
School closure talks began last November, after local voters rejected an FUSD budget override, which they eventually approved in March. Despite the override and a temporary increase in the state sales tax, the district's state funding is expected to be reduced by an additional $4 million next year.
The board was scheduled to reconvene Wednesday afternoon to discuss new boundaries for the remaining schools. A vote on the boundaries is set for June 16.
