MESA – A man has been arrested for allegedly repeatedly beating his 4-year-old daughter.

George Kuykendall is facing three counts of child abuse.

According to detectives, his girlfriend came home to their apartment off Extension and Southern in Mesa on Friday night to find her boyfriend beating his daughter with a computer extension cord.

The girlfriend supposedly helped the girl and then went to bed. Nevertheless, later that night she awoke to find Kuykendall beating the girl again and this time she got into a fight with him and called police.

When police arrived, they arrested Kuykendall on an outstanding warrant. Some of the neighbors, who did not want to go on camera, say the child's beating was pretty bloody.

Although the couple shares a 1-year-old child, the 4-year-old is not the girlfriend’s daughter. The little girl is Kuykendall's daughter from a previous relationship.

Police allowed the suspect’s girlfriend to take the little girl to his aunt and uncle’s house.

Family members eventually saw the severity of the girl’s injuries. She had cuts all over her body, some going deep into the muscle tissue.

The 4-year-old was taken to the hospital and is now listed in serious condition.

Michael Lyons, who lives in the same area as the suspect, has a 2-year-old son and says he could not imagine how a father could put his own child in the hospital.

Kuykendall has a rap sheet. In June of 2008 he was charged with assault and unlawful imprisonment.

The outstanding warrant that he was arrested on came from a case in November 2008 where he was charged with touching with intent to injure. He also has a failure to appear in court out of Yuma. His bond has been set at $100,000.
