Mesa dad dives into pool to retrieve child; toddler's injuries unknownPosted: Updated:
MESA -- A 2-year-old child was transported to a hospital after falling into a pool in Mesa Sunday afternoon.
The Mesa Fire Department responded to a home in the 2200 block of West Del Campo at approximately 3:30 p.m. after a 2-year-old reportedly fell in a pool and was not breathing.
According to Mesa police Sgt. Ed Wessing, the child was playing around the pool with several older kids while the father was a short distance away cleaning a barbecue grill.
Wessing said the toddler fell into the pool and the other children could not reach him. They told the dad and he dove into the pool and retrieved the child.
The father did CPR until fire crews arrived and took over.
The child was transported to Banner Desert Medical Center. Wessing said the extent of the child's injuries would not be known for 72 hours.
