Bicyclist fails to stop at red light, collides with car in ScottsdalePosted: Updated:
SCOTTSDALE -- A bicyclist is in critical condition after colliding with a car at a Scottsdale intersection Thursday night.
According to the Scottsdale Police Department, a 57-year-old Glendale man was riding westbound on McKellips Road at approximately 7:30 p.m. when he failed to stop at the red light at Hayden Road. He continued through the intersection and collided with a Ford Taurus traveling southbound on Hayden Road.
The bicyclist suffered multiple facial fractures, broken ribs, a punctured lung and a broken leg. He was transported to a Scottsdale hospital with life-threatening injuries and is listed in critical condition.
The driver, a 56-year-old Tempe man, was not injured.
Police said alcohol and speed were not factors in the accident.
