Suspicious package at bank; UA Professor honored; Horseshoe fire

The Pima County Sheriff's bomb squad was out at the Chase Bank on Swan and Sunrise investigating a suspicious backpack inside -- but, they found nothing hazardous inside the bag. Deputies later located the man tellers had seen carrying it. He reportedly didn't realize he'd left it behind.

A Norwegian science organization has awarded $1M to a group of researchers at the U of A. Mirror lab chief, Roger Angel and two other researchers have received the prestigious Kavli prize for astrophysics. Angel won for his work making mirrors for large telescopes. The three men get to share the $1M award.

Here's more good news -- progress has been made against the 1,850-acre "Horseshoe Fire" burning in Cochise County, about five miles south of Portal.

Crews have dug about 30-miles of fire lines around the perimeter, but, commanders still list containment at zero. No serious inuries have been reported, and no structures have been threatened.
