Air-conditioning tips and giveaway from Chas Roberts

Posted: Updated:

It's that time of year -- time to make sure your air conditioner is in top shape for another hot Phoenix summer.

Leo Castro and Dean Lane from Chas Roberts have some tips for you.

Most people let things warm up when they're gone and then crank the air when they get home.

"What we'd like for you to do is keep that thermostat at 78, or a nice comfortable temperature that you like," Castro explained. "Let it stay there. That way when you come home, if you turn your system up when you're gone, when you come home it just takes that much longer for the house to get down to where it needs to be cool."

Lanes suggests you have your a/c unit checked in the spring and the fall to make sure everything is running properly.

Castro said keeping an eye on the unit will help you know when to replace the unit. Just because it's blowing cold air doesn't mean it's running properly or efficiently -- and that could end up costing you money.

Lane also showed off some products to make your system more efficient, including a zoning system and several programmable thermostats.

Chas Roberts, which has been in business since 1942, is offering a unique contest. They are giving away four complete systems -- installed -- to four customers in need. The nomination deadline for the contest is June 30. For more information, including complete rules, visit
