SEDONA, Ariz. -- The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office is still searching for the suspect and vehicle involved in a hit-and-run in the Sedona area June 1 and is asking for the public's help.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., sheriff's deputies responded to a reported hit-and-run collision on Red Rock Loop Road, about half a mile north of Red Rock State Park.

Deputies learned that a white sport utility vehicle hit a 2010 Chevy Malibu rental car occupied by a family of four who were on vacation.

The driver of the Malibu told deputies he was negotiating a curve while traveling east on Lower Red Rock Loop Road when the white SUV came toward him at high speed around the same curve. The SUV driver lost control and struck the front end of the Malibu, which burst into flames.

Sheriff's spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said the occupants were not injured.

After the collision, the SUV headed north on Red Rock Loop Road. Deputies have not been able to locate it.

The vehicle had a partial Arizona plate number of 7VT. It is unknown what appears before or after those characters.

According to D'Evelyn, a "V8 Magnum" side fender emblem from a Dodge vehicle was found on the ground at the scene, which indicates the suspect's SUV is most likely a Dodge Durango. The model year is unknown at this time.

An amber piece from a turn signal lens and a clear piece of a headlight lens were also found.

D'Evelyn said there should be substantial left-front body damage to the suspect vehicle.

The SUV reportedly had very dark window tint so no description of the driver or occupants was available.

It is unknown if the suspect vehicle is from the Sedona area or was just passing through.

Yavapai Silent Witness is offering a $500 cash reward to anyone with information leading to the arrest of a suspect. Anyone with knowledge of the suspect's whereabouts or the suspect vehicle location should contact the sheriff's office or Silent Witness at 1-800-932-3232 or text the word "Busted" and the tip to 411247.
