Maricopa County parks start fire ban TuesdayPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- The Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department's annual fire ban goes into effect Tuesday.
The ban includes the use of campfires, fire pits and charcoal grills in all county parks. Ground and hand-held fireworks also are prohibited within parks limits.
Smoking is still permitted but the department is urging smokers to be responsible and extinguish cigarettes.
Violations of the ban could result in a citation.
It's not known when the ban will end. Officials say it will depend on the amount of rainfall the county receives during the monsoon.
