Medical condition likely factor in deadly accident on Happy Valley RoadPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX - Police are investigating a deadly car accident that happened overnight Sunday involving two vehicles.
The accident happened near Happy Valley Road and 21st Avenue between an SUV and a pick-up truck.
Happy Valley Road between 19th and 22nd avenues was still closed early Monday morning as investigators tried to figure out what lead to this deadly accident. The road re-opened around 7 a.m.
Investigators were at the scene through the night looking into this crash that's left an adult female dead.
3TV is hearing that at both drivers were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Lisa Lechtenberg, 27, was the passenger in the pick-up truck who died.
The driver of the pick-up truck was a 28-year-old off duty Phoenix police officer.
Two children, ages five and seven, were in the backseat of the SUV and taken to the hospital as a precaution.
One vehicle was heading westbound, the other traveling eastbound on Happy Valley Road, when police believe the man driving the SUV had a medical condition causing him to jump the curb and end up in the other lane, crashing head on into the pick-up truck around 11 p.m. Sunday night.
There were no indications of impairment from either driver.
Police are waiting on lab results to make a final determination of cause in the crash.
