CASA of Arizona Program
May is Foster Care Awareness Month. This month, think about the children who are not in their own homes. Celebrate their will to overcome adversity that was not of their making. Like other children, those in foster care deserve a safe, secure and loving home, one in which the child is encouraged to grow and develop. Arizona's courts are committed to serving these vulnerable children. Volunteers in the CASA program help us fulfill that commitment on a daily basis.
Volunteers at the forefront of helping abused and neglected children find safe homes hope that one day their services will no longer be needed. But until that day, awareness will bring more community involvement and that will bring more help to children who have been hurt
CASA is an organization that operates through the Juvenile Court in Maricopa County and assigns trained volunteers to children who have been removed from their homes because of abuse or neglect, guiding them through the court process to reunification with family, assignment to a foster family or adoption
Volunteers study a child's situation and act as an objective voice in court, with the ultimate goal being to move the child through the court system and into a safe, permanent living environment
There are over 850 CASA volunteers in Arizona
On average, each active CASA is assigned 1-2 cases representing 2-3 children at a time
CASA of Maricopa County always needs volunteers. In 2009, 6,000 cases were referred to CASA. The organization could only take less than 1000 of those cases
We have more male volunteers than ever before but we could use more (80% vs 20%)
