Growing memorial for slain Phoenix police officerPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Crime tape has been replaced with cards, letters and flowers marking the spot where a Phoenix police officer was fatally shot while on duty early Wednesday.
Fellow officers have been stopping by the memorial on west Fairmount and 19th Avenues to pay their respects to slain police Officer Travis Murphy.
The 29-year-old officer was investigating a suspicious vehicle call when he was shot. The wounded officer was taken by fellow officers to St. Joseph's Hospital where he later died.
Police arrested 30-year-old Danny Martinez. He was booked into jail on charges of first-degree murder and weapons violations.
